Sometimes, the best finds are unexpected or unplanned ones. Or in my case, last minute ones. I recently headed down to Cardigan and I found myself trying to find somewhere to stay hours before I was due to leave. With some frantic trawling of Airbnb and a touch of good fortune, I found Ty Cariad.
Ty Cariad is situated a couple of miles outside Cardigan; a town and area that captured my heart and imagination years ago and keeps drawing me back. I wasn’t entirely sure what Ty Cariad held for me but the friendly emails from owners, John and Ruth, who went to great lengths to help with a late check-in and early check-out convinced me I’d made a good choice. When I got there, I was completely bowled over.
Ty Cariad was a beautiful wooden cabin, hidden away down a track and nestled in the trees. A lovely natural corridor led me to the door and John and Ruth had kindly put the lights on and got some supplies in for me so I could make a cup of tea and have breakfast in the morning.
The shack was incredibly spacious inside and had a dining area, simple kitchen, log burner and double bed (an extra single bed can be added on request). You couldn’t help but let your imagination run and pretend you were in some remote cabin in the Rockies, hiding from a Grizzly.
Flanking each side of the cabin was a compost toilet and a shower room that were connected by a lovely veranda around the cabin. On the left side was a secluded outside dining area that looked over the fields and provided an amazing spot for drinking tea and watching the sunset when I arrived late evening.
After a brilliant night’s sleep, waking up to birdsong and having my breakfast on the front porch was a real moment that I’ll never forget. The location was so tranquil and you’d be forgiven for thinking you were hundreds of miles from civilisation.
At £50 a night, Ty Cariad is a bargain and I can’t recommend it highly enough. If you’re looking for a unique and tranquil getaway in a magical part of the world then Ty Cariad is a perfect place for you. I’ll definitely be back.
