Our ‘Kit’ series will be featuring some of our favourite bits and pieces; some will be new to us while others will be firm family favourites. Our first Kit feature is Mabli.
Designed in Wales, Mabli create knitwear for children (from 3 months to 12 years) that’s perfect for outdoor adventures.
We first stumbled upon Mabli Knits last year when we were looking for clothes for Arthur for our trip to Fforest.
What also drew us to them was the fact that they were made from quality materials that were also machine washable. The last thing you want to be doing on a weekend away, or any day for that matter, is handwashing and having to flat dry clothes.
It was winter turning into spring, and beach missions and exploring woodlands were on the cards. He needed something that was warm and tough enough to cope with his new hobby of crawling. The merino wool and vintage Welsh tapestry patterns that heavily influence their garments was a perfect combination and I loved their ethos of making clothes that were hard-wearing and made to be passed down. These would be hand-me-downs that no kid would be unhappy with.
We sized up and Arthur got a jumper, leggings and a playsuit to set him up for his adventures. He lived in them while we were away and they held their own even when crawling across sand dunes and woodland floors. If the weather turns, his Mabli gear is the first thing we pack. In the spirit of Mabli, and given his gigantic size, Wilf has already worn Arthur’s Mabli jumper and leggings a few times. Equally impressive is that due to the stretch in the wool, Arthur can still fit in his suit a year later. In fact, it came in particularly useful to wear under his snowsuit during the recent battle with the ‘Beast from the East’.
Mabli do a broad range of clothing ranging from socks to Miner dungarees, dresses to beanies. If you’re suddenly struck by envy and feel left out, don’t worry as they also do a selection of adult accessories too so you can match your child. They may not be so keen about you stealing their style but hey, you’re the boss!
