Having spent a morning running about in Nercwys Forest, we were looking for somewhere nearby to feed the kids and cool them down. Never in a million years could we have imagined finding the place we did; an Italian Gelateria in the Welsh hills with its own llama called Domingo that played football. Yes, you read that right.
Nothing could have prepared us for this amazing place and I was starting to wonder whether I’d accidentally ingested something in the forest and was imagining the whole thing. Hidden away on a country lane just outside Nercwys lies Gelateria Domingo the Lama. What is it? It’s a colourful Italian cafe with accommodation, farm and electric bike rental. Not forgetting Domingo the Llama. Oh, and his own five-a-side pitch.
As surprising and as colourful as the setting was, so was the food. The menu was eccentric in a lovely way and it was all made to order as you waited.
There seemed to be lovely touches everywhere and the owners had thought of everything, especially when it came to what kids might like.
For a kid, this place really was like some Welsh/Italian Willy Wonka world. There were animals to see, a colourful playground to climb on, grounds to explore, mountains of ice cream and of course that footballing Llama. Having said that, it was clearly pre-season so Domingo hadn’t returned to training yet and was on holiday in the back field so we didn’t witness his skills first hand.
Whether you’re in the area for a walk, cycling or just passing through on your way to Snowdonia, this place really is a must. It needs to be seen to be believed. You can sense that the owners have put absolutely everything into this and they deserve for it to do well. And so does Domingo.
